Start up mantra – float like a butterfly , sting like a bee

I believe legendary boxing champ Muhammed Ali summarises an entrepreneurs survival strategy perfectly when he said “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. The hands can’t hit what the eyes can’t see.”

That’s exactly what I observe with the entrepreneurs I have the pleasure to meet. Such stamina and so much energy . Their absolute single point focus on making their dream come true is fantastic to watch.

720 degree vision

That’s right 720 degree vision , I was shocked to hear that term.It means it’s just not about what you have around you but to also see up and down. Keep your neck flexible. I am a believer and a follower now. I can proudly say I am a little less ignorant now.

When you start something on your own , you really don’t have the luxury of having multiple support teams making sure all your day to day work is being taken care of. So you end up playing all the roles. The trick is not to become a multi tasking robot but to play each role as per the script for that role.

You have to have a marketing hat on when you figure out your new product line , once the concept is ready you put on a finance hat , you don’t have a team of leaders managing and motivating your employees , it’s up to you to keep them happy and smiling so you become a HR professional.

Yes , you need to know the basics and fundamentals of all the things around you . No it’s not impossible , it’s only difficult. It’s all about momentum. Stay focused and keep moving!!!

Phew keeping track of these roles is not easy , but most of us are not in it because it is easy. It has it’s level of complexity but the ones who can master the art of managing each role in its own scope and space will be the leaders of the future. The ones who will give the right people the right cause.

Use your tools – Technology plays a key role in start-ups

Thank god we have smart phones. If you are one of those shoe string budget kind of entrepreneur you will eventually learn how to use anything and everything that’s at your disposal.

I seem to have worked out a crude system of using technology at my disposal.

To start with I researched and researched through blogs, Google and YouTube.

List out the basics that you need.

Assume you are always mobile.

Have access to the Internet anywhere and everywhere.

Know your battery life.

Know the office softwares you will need. Make sure you have the version you are comfortable with.

Have the apps to all your social media profiles.

Use as many apps as you can to streamline your work

Google apps are very cool and easy yo use. If you have been on Gmail then Google business apps will a walk in the park.

Have a list of games that reminds you of childhood. Always nice to disconnect and chill out.

Have lots of storage and dedicated a portion of that to music.

Have a set of travel chargers.

A bag to carry your wires and universal plug adapter. Never know which country you may end up in.

Ensure you have warranty and necessary service records upto date.

Be comfortable and don’t let your gadgets over whelm you. Know your flow.

Have an expert handy.

Make sure you set a budget and hover around it. Don’t get carried away. Your time will come.

Journey to smart – start up tips for start ups and entrepreneur

3 years back I had an idea. I couldn’t have imagined in a 100 years that things would get so exciting. It was a life changer.

It’s a roll coaster. Both highs and lows are tough to navigate. Everything happening is for the first time . It’s not about second chances or first impressions.

It’s about survival. From one month to the next , managing clients expectations , get bullied , convince people to work with you and finally stay focused on your ideas when everyone else seems to have an easy way to make the money.

I am not writing this cause I am extremely successful , I am still climbing the ladder. I felt that’s it important to share my thoughts and views with you. What I say here are things I have learnt so far. During the last 3 years I personally feel that every incident has evolved my thought process.

You going in thinking something , you come out believing something else!!!

First and foremost be flexible , when you start off with an idea you have strong beliefs and rules you tend to set for yourself. This could be because of your experiences from your past. This is good , but remember it’s not set in stone my friend!!!

Your ability to change and positively adapt to situations in real time is key to any scenario.

Sometimes you will be surprised to see how your idea evolves when you tweak it a bit over time . Trust yourself!!!

It’s not the idea but the people!!!

Always , always remember that whatever you doing , in someway it has to help or fulfil need of people. I believe with the help and support of the right people you will be able to anticipate and negate lots of issues that you will face during your initial days.

Value people’s time , their expertise and advise. Have an idea of the kind of people you want to work with . Focus on attracting people like that. Spend time with them , learn about their life .

There will come a time when you are on the brink of success and failure , a good team will always give up an added advantage.

Give up and don’t give up

Confused , it’s natural . I thought if I put my head into building my idea I won’t give up . Well that’s right I won’t give up , I ll keep pushing forward .

However some aspects of my idea I had to give up , not because someone forced me to . Cause when you step into reality and start working on building up idea it becomes clear that everything you thought of wasn’t perfect .

Pursuit of perfection is a life long journey , it’s fantastic. But sometimes to achieve that perfection you need to be able to give up on a few things. It’s going to happen. Don’t fight it , find the silver lining . It should be easy for an Entrepreneur.
